Q) What is the Howth Aquathon Series?

A) It is a series of races held on three summer Monday evenings in Howth

2013 Dates are 20th May, 17th June and 1st July

The 2 race format is designed to cater for both experienced and lesser experienced athletes

Q) What are different races in the Howth Aquathon Series?

A) The Races are:

LONG RACE @ 19.30 Hrs :- 1000m swim - 5.5 km Run

SHORT RACE @ ~20.00* Hrs:- 500m Swim - 2.8 km Run

*Short race will start once all long race participants have cleared the swim section and water safety cover is in place.

Q) What is the distance between the Swim Section and the transition area for the start of the run?

A) For each race the distance from the end of the swim/ exit from the beach to the grass transition area will be approx 120m

This route will be covered by fabric suitable to run in bare feet

Q) Are wetsuits compulsory?

A) Yes - shorties are permitted but full wetsuits are recommended

Q) What is the cost of entry?

A) Cost to enter one Race is €15 until 1 month before race

i.e. €15 until 20/04/13 for race 1 on 20th May;

€15 until 17/05/13 for race 2 on 17th June;

€15 until 01/06/13 for race 3 on 1st July;

Then entry cost is €20 until noon on day before each rac

We would prefer on line entry in advance but on the night entry is possible for €25

Cost to enter all 3 races:- €35 until 28/02/13; €39 until 30/04/13; €49 until 15/05/13

Entry for all 3 Races includes Howth Challenge Series Tee-shirt - Individual Race entry does not

Q) Is entry cost inclusive of the on-line entry system provider’s commission?

A) Yes – Your entry cost is fully inclusive of all costs and commissions

You do not need a TI licence to enter this event

We have public liability insurance for this event which does not cover any injury you might sustain whilst participating in the event

Should you feel you need further personal insurance cover please arrange this yourself in advance

Personal sports event insurance is available from Sportscover Direct or other several other companies

Q) Is it possible to enter on the night?

A) Entry on the night (Cost €25) will be possible before 7pm but we would prefer if you could enter on-line prior to noon on day before the race.

Q) What are categories for prizes?

A) For all races there will be prizes for the first 3 men and women in the open category and the 1st vet (O- 40 on day of race)

Should a Vet be eligible for an Open prize in either of the Solo events they will have the choice of taking either that prize or their category prize.

Should they elect to take the Open class prize, the next placed Vet will receive their prize

In addition to these prizes there will be spot prizes available for all participants present at the prizegiving which will take place after races finish

In 2012 prizes will include Healthpro and Bike Hub vouchers and vouchers for Beshoff Bros famous takeawaymeals Tongue out

Q) Will there be wave starts?

A) It is likely that we will have a single start for each race

Q) What terrain is the running section?

A) The running route will be on tarmac and concrete paths with a small section on grass - regular runners or racing flats will be fine.

For the July race we are going to introduce a summer finale twist with the run taking place on the beach at low tide - runners are recommended.


Q) Are entries transferable or refundable?
A) Sorry but No they are not

Q) What are the Race Check-in times?

A) Race Check-in is the Sea Scout hall in Howth from 18.00 to 19.15hrs on race night - this is beside the transition area and very close to the Train Station

You will be issued with your race number and timing chip at this time

Please Note: Nothing is sent to you in the post before the event, everything you require to take part in the event is issued at check-in.

Q) Do I get a T-Shirt?

A) In order to keep the cost of entry down for everyone and because many participants already have lots of race tee shirts there is no tee shirt included in your entry cost unless you choose to enter all 3 races together prior to 19th May

If you are entering just one or two race then you have the option of purchasing a tech tee for €10 at race sign at the third race on 1st July

Q) Will there be a "goody" bag?
A) No - We prefer to keep the quality of the actual event up and the costs down for the benefit of competitors.

Race 1 is 1 lap and race 2 is 2 laps of the same swim course - the route may be slighlty varied depending on tidal conditions

Q) Is there a lower age limit for the event?

A) Yes, the minimum age for the event is 18

Q) What age qualifies as Vet category?

A) We will have Over 40 Vet classes for both Male & Female

Q) Do I need a TI or other race license to compete?

A) No
